The 2004 version of this trade paperback was printed on regular paper and contained the first five issues of the series. This edition has glossy paper, washed-out recoloring, and issues 1-10. The first story arc is a bit of a muddle, but "Motive" (by Brubaker) is an improvement and "Half A Life" (by Rucka) is simply outstanding.

It's readable, but how could the Gotham PD not be able to stop a guy, Mr Freeze, in the functional equivalent of a undersea diving suit from entering a high security building, where they know he is coming, climb the stairs, and then take out the heavily armed cops who in the end, are armed as well as he is? Freeze is no Batman only level criminal, except to the most inept PD in the world. The rest, the noir style and all the personal and interpersonal cop stuff is OK but kind of trite. This series has no real raison d'etre.

This one didn't really hold my attention for all. I read it mainly to see interaction between Batman and the police force. It was interesting but wasn't for me.
