A crusading District Attorney is out to convict the head of a vicious murder-for-hire ring. But when his star witness is killed, Bogart must race against time to find the evidence he needs to bring down the mob boss. Told in a series of flashbacks, this tense, tough-as-nails crime thriller on the cutting edge of film noir was based on actual Murder, Inc. trials.

"The Enforcer" is a great film noir. Granted, film noir is a niche genre of movie. It is about a no nonsense district attorney. Bogart is at his best as the dedicated District Attorney. It is tough guys, crime, murder & the dregs of society. There is an attractive woman in a supporting role. However, the is no romance in this movie. Bogart does not have a love interest. Some movie fans may miss the absence of a love interest for the hero. The audience is told nothing about the hero's personal life. The District attroney, Bogart, appears to be married to his job. I will add that police methods & witness protection has improved somewhat since 1951. Audiences are more sophisticated. "The Enforcer" is a great movie for its time & it stands up today.

Could have been a great movie. Something is missing.

Great movie, too bad they don't make them like this today. Keeps you wondering who did what right up to the end.

Humphrey Bogart is trying to convict a leader of Murder Inc., but he's having trouble getting a witness to testify. This film is a showcase of numerous Warner Brother character actors, who come onto the scene one after the other with most getting bumped off just before Bogart can get to them. This is a nice little crime story that keeps going until the words The End.
