A hefty investment of six+ hours but many well-told stories about the different facets of the U.S. food system and the heartening turn toward sustainability over chemically supported “growth”. You can pick and choose which clip to view, but be forewarned that if you watch a lot of them, you’ll wind up fast-forwarding through the same sponsors’ promotion that precedes every single clip. Local musicians add welcome background to most clips.
Locally, “Go Fish” features the Westport, WA company named American Tuna, and Aberdeen, WA and its mushroom foragers in “Wild Food, I Think I Love You.” The only clip I didn’t enjoy was “Food on The Brain”. The profiled food researcher had firm opinions that people hate to shop for food and tend to eat mindlessly—not my experience.

There are a lot of documentaries, books, etc that talk about the challenges we face in providing healthy, nutritious foods in an economically feasible way. But unlike many of those, this series focuses on solutions that are being tested and tried in the world around us with particular emphasis on the alternatives taking place under the radar here in the US.
Topics include urban agriculture, hydroponics, waste management and re-purposing, nutrition, and technology usage in new and innovative ways in the world of agriculture.
This is a must see for anyone who is interested in becoming part of the agriculture industry, engaging with those who do or simply want to be more purposeful in their interactions with food consumption.
