"In the months that followed I watched His Holiness working on a new book . . . I began to think that perhaps the time had come for me to turn my paws to a book of my own . . . one that tells my own tale . . . How I was rescued from a fate too grisly to contemplate, to become constant companion to a man who is not only one of the world's greatest spiritual leaders and a Nobel Peace Prize laureate, but who is also a dab hand with the can opener." Not so much fly-on-the-wall as cat-on-the-sill, this is the warmhearted tale of a small kitten rescued from the slums of New Delhi who finds herself in a beautiful sanctuary with sweeping views of the snow-capped Himalayas. In her exotic new home, the Dalai Lama's cat encounters Hollywood stars, Buddhist masters, Ivy-league professors, famous philanthropists, and a host of other people who come visiting His Holiness. Each encounter offers a fresh insight into finding happiness and meaning in the midst of a life of busy-ness and challenge. Drawing us into her world with her adorable but all-too-flawed personality, the Dalai Lama's cat discovers how instead of trying to change the world, changing the way we experience the world is the key to true contentment. Featuring a delightful cast of characters, timeless Buddhist wisdom, and His Holiness's compassion pervading every chapter, The Dalai Lama's Cat is simply enchanting.

What an entertaining and heart-warming book! Good for an gentle and easy overview of some Buddhist ideas and "getting to know" a realistic and heartwarming cat and her people.

As a practicing lay-Buddhist I found this novel to be delightful. Told from the pov of the cat, the story delivers many of the ideas and words of the Dalai Lama, through chapters illustrating the growing understanding of the cat. Truly charming. I didn't want it to end, so it's great there's a sequel.

I loved this book! One of the best I've ever read. Thought provoking, funny and inspirational. I sped through it and would recommend it to anyone with a heartbeat!

I'm not a cat person, and I'm not a Buddhist, but this was a delightful and enjoyable easy read.

This is the most adorable book, and a must read if you love to read and love cats. It's very well written so it's not just a "fluff" book (pun intended). I laughed out loud a few times and fully enjoyed the read.

The cat on the cover got me to take out this book, but it is an dual themed book that will be enjoyed by both cat-lovers and those curious about Buddhism. A one-day light read that kept my interest!

Becoming a part of the Dalai Lama's household is a "purrfect" way to study the path towards enlightenment. Sweet!

We all face the same choice when dealing with problems. We don't ask for them. We don't want them. But the way we deal with them is what's most important. If we are wise, the greatest problems can lead to the greatest insights.
