This original graphic novel tells the story of one very dark night in Gotham City. The Joker has been mysteriously released from Arkham Asylum, and he's none too happy about what's happened to his Gotham City rackets while he's been 'away.' What follows is a harrowing night of revenge, murder and manic crime as only The Joker can deliver it, as he brutally takes back his stolen assets from The Penguin, The Riddler, Two-Face, Killer Croc and, of course, The Batman, and heaven help them all. Told through the eyes of his loyal (but naive) henchman Jonny Frost, THE JOKER is a true noir crime novel: a harrowing journey into a city of rain-soaked streets, dirty sheets and nothing but bad choices.

Gorgeous art that moves back adn forth between paintings and more traditional comic panels. Joker's design here harkens back to Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight. Storyline is only so-so, however. Definitely dark, though...

Horrible. Poorly drawn, meaningless violence, mindless plot. Don't bother.

This was good, but very, very dark. The "new" joker (a la Heath Ledger) is not at all like the joker that I grew up with (a la Jack Nicholson). This is NOT recommended for children.

It was really dark, as anyone would guess from the cover. This is probably the scariest version of the Joker I've seen so far, and Killer Croc too. The art is amazing though, it's a different style than a lot of comics.

This is one dark puppy of a book. Very definitely a post-Heath Ledger vision of Joker (not that Ledger's portrayal was really that great, but it was at least a little less comedic and a little more menacing than usual...). Anyway, if you're in the mood for some real nastiness, this is the ticket. As if you couldn't tell from the cover...
