Tony is a young man living in Brooklyn. The highlight of his week is going to the local disco, where he is the king of the dancefloor. At the disco, Tony meets Stephanie and they agree to dance together in a competition. Stephanie resists Tony's attempts to romance her, as she aspires to greater things. Her goal is to move across the river to Manhattan. Gradually, Tony also becomes disillusioned with the life he is leading and he and Stephanie decide to help one another to start afresh.

I saw this movie 40 years ago and loved it, loved it again when I saw it recently. I am surprised that they got away with some of the language back then. The dancing was phenomenal, John Travolta looked so good and his moves - what can I say!!

I didn't see this when it came out. Just saw it. It's a gross, vulgar, racist movie with great songs and some excellent dancing. I much prefer Dirty Dancing!

I think this is one of Travolta's best movies.

Had heard lots about this movie but hadn't seen it until now. Well worth the wait!

I concur with britprincess1. Back in the day, when this movie was new, I did not see it - could not afford the price of a ticket and this was way before all our present movie delivery systems we now have. Finally, I decided to watch it courtesy of SPL and found it utterly dreadful. I am long past the days when vulgarity is entertaining so clearly you need to see this when you can relate to the characters as your contemporaries. I still like the BeeGees' music however.

A classic! It takes the director just ten minutes to describe Tony's character, his family, his job, how he spends his free time. Nice job of connecting with the audience and setting up the rest of the story. Great music. Fast paced writing/editing. Dancing is fun to watch especially the Puerto Rican couple. Very enjoyable.

It's one of my favorite movies. An amazing performance by John Travolta. It brings you back to the 70's disco era.

I hate to be the person who hates the classic movies. I always want to see what gave it its longevity, but, unless it's Travolta's dancing, I don't understand the appeal of this film. There isn't even enough dancing for it to be that! This film is such a disappointment with annoying characters that are stupid abominations that treat people like dirt. In the first fifteen minutes, when I was open to whatever the film was offering and it seemed to be leading somewhere, I felt that I may be strapping in for something good, but by the time twenty minutes had passed, I completely gave up on the film. I just hated it and the characters didn't have enough charisma for me to forgive their detestable actions and personalities. I don't recommend this film to anyone.

A gritty urban backdrop and raw adolescent emotion are combined in “Saturday Night Fever”. The result is a classic film that perfectly captures the ethos of the late-seventies disco culture.

An older film from the 70's, when John Travolta was young and slim. Punctuated by many BeeGee hits, this is a pretty good film to kill a couple of hours. The dance sequences were enjoyable too.
