The highest-grossing silent film of all time, as well as the first realistic war drama, tells the harrowing story of a young man's (John Gilbert) front-line experiences in World War I. The film fiercely captures the heroism of the ordinary foot soldier struggling to survive, and how James' determination to return to the village girl he loves faces the ultimate test.

If you don't think silent war/romance films can be gripping and effective, try this one.

I enjoyed this DVD. The story was strong. The characters had some depth. The actors did a great job!
It shows how war is not fun but dangerous & harmful. War split up a couple in love. It was successfully sad.

It was O.K for a home TV movie. I was entertained and interesting. But it was NOT worth the long library wait or the price to rent from a Red Box.
