A beautiful film about love for a place, for food, and for family and friends. Beautiful evocation of Constantinople. The scenes of different locations at different points in time at the start of each "course" (section) are magical. "A Touch of Spice" received low marks on Rotten Tomatoes for some reason, but it is really a lovely film.

I like watching "A Touch Spice" because of humanistic side of it. A strong narration would have made the movie one level up. I understand the difficulties of making a movie about old times in a modern time Istanbul with 12 million population, but the director could have been more careful making 1959 Istanbul looked like 16th century market place. In that sense, it reminds me Elia Kazan's "America America". It also gave me the impression that the old Istanbul scenes were not taken in Istanbul. I found the movie quite sentimental and nostalgic.
