A beautiful and touching Italian film about poetry, friendship and the difficulties of being an immigrant. So much hardship in what is left behind and trying to just learn a new language. It falls on two of my lists - contemporary Italian films and films about getting old.

A slow-moving human drama set in the shoreline near Venice. It's about an unlikely bonding between two persons that developed in spite of scorn from people around them. A great film for an audience craving a quiet evening to explore the human conditions. In Italian and Chinese with subtitles. The bonus short films is a good laugh.

I wish I could give this 10 stars as not only was the main feature beautiful & heart felt (a poetic love story) but the short film is absolutely funny.

Sad story on the plight of a migrant worker from China and her friendship with an older local widower in the backwaters near Venice. After watching the somber film, treat yourself to the bonus short: Shanghai Love Market ... LOL !

Shun Li shelters her poetic soul as she works to pay back her passage. a forbidden friendship brings moments of warm connection in a suspicious society.

Great tenderness and kindness shared by two lonely immigrants. A lot of heartfelt moments. Beautifully done.

Shun LI (Tao Shao) and “The Poet” (Rade Serbedzija), two hard working immigrants in Italy (one from China, the other from Yugoslavia) become friends and support each other as they cope with the loneliness of being an outsider in Italy. I’ve seen Rade Serbedzija starring in “Before the Rain” and “In the Land of Blood and Honey." Being from the Balkans, he is continuously exploring the difficulties of the multiculturalism spawned by that area of Europe. Excellent film exploring friendship, exploitation of immigrant workers, and suspicion between different ethnic groups.

All rivers to the sea flow, but cannot fill it. There's a wind that's cold, but it warms the soul. Takes away Li's gloom and makes her heart bloom.
