I never knew about this movie or much about the Mods vs Rockers movement of the 1960s. Really a well done film. Reminds me a tiny bit of Saturday Night Fever, but with cooler music & more angst. Sting has a small part & he is a terrible dancer.

Director Franc Roddam shot the film with a gritty, realistic feel and the themes of youthful rebellion and confusion are absolutely timeless, magnified by the specificity of the setting rather than being limited by it.

Mods v. Rockers in 1964 England. The story follows a disaffected youth, bored with his life and his prospects, he embraces the Mod culture; fancy clothes, popping pills, riding a scooter with his friends but is it enough in the end? The film was based on music by The Who (they also produced the film). I thought the film did a good job of reflecting the culture and the time and place of the era. Sting (the musician/rockstar) plays the top Mod (Ace) and all the other Mods idolize him and the main character, Jimmy, his world and beliefs are popped when he finds his hero working away as a Bellboy at a hotel - like a regular working stiff. The bonus extras have a nice segment about the Mods and Rockers created for French television, and another has interviews with the director, dance coordinator and Sting - provides some background for those born before or after the era.
