I found this first season of this series to be smart, fun, and extremely entertaining. I hadn't heard of it prior to finding it at the library and checked it out on a whim based on the description. It definitely lived up to its premise. I found Kate to be inspiring and loved her whimsical, hopeful, and creative approach to everything she puts her mind to. I thought that the chemistry between her and her ex, Justin, was palpable and perfect. The plots were entertaining as were the group of supporting characters. It reminds me a lot of the tone and pacing of Royal Pains, so if you enjoy that, at least the first season of this series will probably suit your tastes. It takes place in San Francisco, so the setting is also beautiful and vivid. I also really enjoyed the idea of mediation being a way for everyone to win (as opposed to the usual TV fare where someone has to beat their opponent to a pulp and we're expected to cheer them on.) I'm sorry it didn't last longer and I'm looking forward to seeing where it goes in the 2nd season, though I've seen that they changed it up some and it might not be as good.

In San Francisco Kate Reed works out of her late father's law office as a mediator. Kate's step-mother and brother are both attorneys at the law firm of Reed & Reed practicing law in order to keep the firm running and profitable. Kate, formally an attorney, mediates court appointed legal disputes to avoid expensive and extended lawsuits. During her assigned cases Kate uses her quirky and annoying methods to resolve various disputes. Kate's personal life is also interwoven into season one of Fairly Legal.
