The original Conan movie- and the best! Does the movie look dated and cheesy in places- yes! I've always thought that was part of it's charm, and that jibed with the pulpiness of the stories by Robert E. Howard. But the film does pack a wallop, and contains some great moments and fighting sequences. Sure Arnold is a little stiff, but in the end he pulls off Conan with aplomb. It's amazing to me that this film hasn't been bettered by any one else in all these years.

1982's Conan the Barbarian, is an epic movie- it made a lasting impression on me as a kid. The excellent soundtrack combined with the awesome cinematography make this a timeless epic. Watching this movie is almost a spiritual experience for me. It draws heavily on concepts of stoicism in the beginning of the story and ends with one man standing against the forces of religious cult hood or any dogmatic beliefs that would enslave humanity. A very deep story if one really watches it closely.

To crush your enemies in battle. See them driven before you and to hear the lamentation of their women.

I have watched this film once a year since I was 12. The simplicity of life (and death) and one of the first movies to incorporate magic in an R rated feature. Was one of the best movies of its day and still holds its own amongst many movies today.

What is best in life?

Conan: To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women.

This movie was entertaining and interesting but not one of my favorite for this year. “Not too bad---good performance”. "I fast forwarded a lot but not all the way.”

I watched this on television when I was a kid and was immediately drawn into swordsmanship and medieval-like things. I really fancied how Arnold fought in this one.

I know this movie has its problems but it also has so much going for it. Schwarzenegger is, at least visually, a great Conan. His acting is not the greatest. The set designs and weapon designs are wonderful. The soundtrack is unbelievably beautiful and fitting. The Sword fighting is very realistic and fun to watch. The big mistake the producers made was to take a bunch of Conan stories and weave them into one story instead of just focusing on one of the great Robert E. Howard stories available. The same thing happened with the remake last year. This is still well worth watching. I love it, despite the movie's faults.

A painfully slow, but all in all standard sword and sorcery epic, nothing too special, but nothing too horrendous.
