A sort of prepubescent Sling Blade, this is a workmanlike but predictable film with cardboard-cutout adult characters that's a ho-hum experience for an adult viewer. However, adults are not its intended audience, presumably. It reminded me of the Children's Film Foundation films that I throughly enjoyed as a ten-year-old.

Good - Alabama Moon (2009) 99 min. I was taken away by the film's innocence in the midst of films today that are far from being "family friendly". Innocence but not syropy. The story revolves around a boy that's raised in the woods, captured by the authorities after the boy's father dies and forced to live among other boys in an orphanage. Some of the characters are too cartoonish such as the sheriff but the film keeps one's interest throughout. For a film directed at the younger folk, I recommend this one.

A true family film
