Physics professor Larry Gopnik can't believe his life. His wife is leaving him for his best friend, his unemployed brother won't move off the couch, someone is threatening his career, his kids are a mystery, and his neighbor is tormenting him by sunbathing nude. Struggling to make sense of it all, Larry consults three different rabbis and their answers lead him on a twisted journey of faith, family, delinquent behavior, and mortality.

Well, I didn't get it. I laughed once when they ran across the parking lot of the motel in their underwear. Not too sure why? (Why I laughed, that is.) Not sure why I ordered this movie either! You win some, you lose some.

Possibly the worse movie I've seen. As it drearily drags on, it certainly doesn't touch my concept of humor.

Real to life story with a Hebrew setting. Could've been Catholic or Protestant, kids are kids, people are people. Another fine effort from the Brothers.

(Agree with jennrose's Mar 10, 2012 comment.) Can't help but felt humored by the family and professional problems that continued to erupt around a meek Physics professor who always tried to be a serious man in the strictest of the Jewish faith and sought the advice from a series of rabbis. IMDb has pages of quotes and worth a visit. In the extra/bonus, there was an explanation of the opening fable and a Glossary of Yiddish terms used in the film. See link to them under "Quotes."

I am a fan of the Coen brothers' movies, but I could not get through this one. It really does go nowhere. On the other hand, critics loved it!

I gave up on this video after 40 mins without seeing anything funny. Perhaps since the humor is so tied in with Jewish culture, maybe it's intended as a Jewish comedy. I don't know. Just didn't get any of the humor attempts and thought it was slow, slow, slow. Expected more of the Cohen brothers.

Not everyone will understand the dark, dark humour of this film, but those who do will be delighted.

I found this Coen brothers dark comedy/drama hilarious, well written, and very entertaining.

My favorite Coen brothers film of all time. A modern day story of Job. Brilliant writing and acting as usual. Fantastic. I realize it's not for everyone, however. The Coens show that there is beauty, humor and wonder in the midst of our suffering. NOT for those who watch film purely for escapism purposes.

This story did nothing for me. The "humour" just wasnt there. I would pass on this one.
