This is a very strange movie. It moves back an forth between the women and the men they love. All about lust, sex, poverty and cheating. It is also about the complexities of people. This story weaves together very slowly almost to the point where I wanted to give up on the movie. Then it starts to come together, as if it is a piece of woven fabric and suddenly the pattern emerges. Suddenly I thought 'now I know what is happening' and the story makes sense. It is always very interesting to watch the Bonus section of the movie.

What a stupid movie! Kim Basigner hasn't made a movie in ages and she took this one? A slow moving plot and a stupid story line. Don't waste your time on this one like I did.

An engaging dark drama that took awhile to piece together and understand the relationship of the three women in the film: Kim Basinger as Gina; Charlize Theron as Sylvia and 18 year old Jennifer Lawrence as Mariana. Lawrence was not credited on the DVD box, anywhere in the description herein or on its official web site ( ) but there were too much resemblance in looks and voice of the young woman NOT to be JL. Like to add that the location shots of Las Cruces NM. and Depoe Bay OR. were spectacular.

If I've seen a worse movie I've blocked it from my memory. Truly awful, gave up, couldn't care less about the characters.

An interesting film which weaves the lives of various characters together in unexpected ways.

disturbing - done in a style reserved mostly for foreign films (takes forever to get to the point with the actors saying little and emoting tons aqnd the audience guessing at what horrible events precipitated such drama) -- i would not watch this again even though the two female leads are amazing the plot is weak and the supporting actors have little color

Good – The Burning Plain (2008) 111 min. It’ll take a few scenes to figure out that the narrative jumps from present time to the past. Once you’ve established this story-telling technique, you’ll be immersed in an emotional story of deceit and redemption, loneliness and searching for happiness. Charlize Theron’s character is the focus of this film as it looks at her past in explaining her current behavioral state. The film may be slow at times but the subject matter is worth the challenge.

That's my dad's whiskey.
-Is it? When the hell is he gonna drink it?
Well, I'd be even happier... if we could have some hot water so I can take a shower.
We can go to the desert and burn choya's. My grandfather told me... that the smoke of the burned choya's purifies.
-They're like fire-works.
The scar is so ugly.
-You beat death. You fought and won. That makes your scar beautiful. Don't erase it.
What happened?
-Nothing, I just burned myself once.
You know dad has the same scar in the same place. He said he did it to never forget you.
I left you because I was scared that you be like me. That you become just like me.
