During the eerie half-light of a far north summer night, a crime spree - from scams to burglary - strikes the Highlands. Suddenly Hamish Macbeth has more police work than he desires. As he investigates the summer's high crimes and misdemeanors, he attracts the attention of his superiors. They feel a promotion and transfer will give him a larger playing field. That's the last thing Macbeth wants. Now the lawman needs a clever way to quash the move without losing his job entirely.

Death of a Village --- by --- M. C. Beaton.
It is always a pleasure to read of the adventures of Constable Hamish Macbeth. The Scottish mists, the heather, the whiskey all contribute to painting a wonderful, soft setting for these stories. Highly recommended.

Good quick read. Still cannot picture Hamish with anyone but Priscilla.
The Currie sisters, Archie, the Brodies and Mrs. Wellington and of course Hamish are my favorites in this series.
