Fr. John wants to create an Arapaho museum on the rez, to help create pride among the youth. He hears of a ledger book, part of the tribe's patrimony, which should be among the items a Denver museum lists in its inventory which it plans to turn over to the tribe. The elderly story teller, keeper of the oral traditions, remembers seeing it in the museum in 1920, but who's going to listen to him? Fr. John and Arapaho attorney Vicky get worried when the Arapaho grad student working on the ledger for his PhD, who planned to run the museum on the rez, disappears. Added to the tension of the plot, is the tension between Fr. John and Vicky. A thoroughly satisfying mystery.
