A very well-made movie. There aren't any slack spots, it moves right along to the end, and then it's over. It's the role Bronson was born to play, his transformation from a guy who vomits after his first kill, to a gleeful vigilante, is entirely believable. Supporting player Stuart Margolin is outstanding, and so is Vincent Gardenia. The soundtrack, by Herbie Hancock, is terrific jazz. And there's Jeff Goldblum, wearing a Jughead hat. Goofs: The cover illustration shows Bronson with some kind of heavy automatic pistol, but in the movie, he uses a nickel-plated .32 revolver to good effect.

WARNING: All the sequels to "Death Wish" are simply awful.

Excellent revenge action drama starring Charles Bronson, Death Wish is a fairly basic flick that relies on a simple plot. However the genius of this film lies in the menacing performance of Charles Bronson who shines as Paul Kersey, who's bent on revenge after the brutal beating of his wife and daughter at the hands of hooligans. This is an essential film to watch for Bronson fans as well as those looking for a classic action film. Brilliantly acted and directed, this is a very good film that displays Charles Bronson in top form. This film is a 1970's action classic.

Directed by Michael Winner, this is a 1974 American vigilante action drama loosely based on the 1972 novel of the same name by Brian Garfield.
Paul Kersey becomes a vigilante after his wife is murdered and his daughter is sexually assaulted during a home invasion.
Although I understand the mind of Paul Kersey, vigilantism should be denounced.
As a drama, however, it is treated with an empathetic comapssion because the States faced increasing crime rates during the 1970s.

I thought that this movie was good. It was interesting to watch Bronson's character change in response to the world changing around him. Jeff Goldblum was effectively repulsive as freak #1 (IMBD).

Pretty good Charles Bronson classic from 1974.

It was O.K for a home TV movie. I was entertained and interesting. But it was NOT worth the long library wait or the price to rent from a Red Box. I fast forwarded a lot but not all the way

Sad story of a soul who's family is victimized by criminals. He copes by shrugging off liberal views and shooting muggers at night in 70's New York City. Old school action star Charles Bronson's acting is praiseworthy --all in the eyes.

When I was a kid I used to think Charles Bronson was a really scary man, especially when I would see a few seconds of any Death Wish movie, but watching it now, all I can say is that Bronson is totally awesome. This actually has a decent story, about a man the is wronged by punks when they kill his wife and rape his daughter, and decides that he can no longer just sit by while innocent people are hurt for fun and greed. The action is believable, the police work actually would make sense and Charles Bronson was flat out terrific as the lead. So all in all this is a good tale of justice and revenge, and it has Jeff Goldblum trying to look like a bad ass, which makes it worth seeing all on its own.
