12:46: Claire Bingleystands alone at a bus stop
12:47: Ted Conkaffey parks his car beside her
12:52: The girl is missing . . .

Six minutes in the wrong place at the wrong time--that's all it took to ruin Sydney detective Ted Conkaffey's life. Accused but not convicted of a brutal abduction, Ted is now a free man--and public enemy number one. Maintaining his innocence, he flees north to keep a low profile amidst the steamy, croc-infested wetlands of Crimson Lake.

There, Ted's lawyer introduces him to eccentric private investigator Amanda Pharrell, herself a convicted murderer. Not entirely convinced Amanda is a cold-blooded killer, Ted agrees to help with her investigation, a case full of deception and obsession, while secretly digging into her troubled past. The residents of Crimson Lake are watching the pair's every move . . . and the town offers no place to hide.

"Complex, human characters, and a dark, meaty story, and fine writing, and a great sense of place - this is one of the best crime thrillers of the year. Sign me up as a big-time Fox fan!" --Lee Child

Can’t say I enjoyed this book. I didn’t engage with the characters and the solutions at the end were totally unbelievable

Enjoyed this thriller - not the run of the mill character that is true. However once you get into their stories and learn about how these two people got where they were you soon like them and want to find out more about them. Like why does Amanda not want to be touched - or won't get in the car -the answer is chilling. As far is Ted is concerned this is what can happen to someone who is wrongly accused - the crowd mentality takes over and even though he is innocent his life is hell.

I believe that this is a beginning of a crime series with these two characters and I will be looking forward to more of their investigations.

With the most pathetic characters in fiction a plodding narrative and a plot that fails to engage
anyone with half a brain from page one, I'm definitely giving Fox's book two thumbs down.

Liked this book a lot. I have read all Candice Fox books. Crimson Lake is a book about two people accused of crimes. The journey from prision back into everyday life. They each handle the journey differently. The hate crimes, being harrassed by the police, and the media. The plot and strong characters made this a great book!

What a great crime thriller! Couldn't put it down and didn't want it to end. Looking forward to Redemption Point, Book 2.

A fast paced read with super characters. The ending was exciting and am looking forward to picking up the story in the follow-on novel, Redemption Point.

I chatted with Candice Fox at a mystery convention. She is not only a great person, but an awsome writer. Crimson Lake is full of fantastic characters, unique locations, with a wonderful plot full of conflict. All in all, a great read.

Different crime novel set in Cairns in far Northern Queensland. The main characters come together as private detectives pursuing the disappearance of a famed author. Two other crimes are investigated culminating in a nail-biting climax.
