Witemeyer has quickly become one of my favourite Christian romance authors. While the writing in this one was a little rough at the beginning with some bumpy dialogue, the book quickly took off and I was quickly charmed by both the lead characters and their romance. As is usual with Witemeyer's books the suspense plot adds a forward momentum to the plot that keeps thing moving. I'd recommend this one to readers who enjoy Christian romance but I wouldn't suggest this be the first Witemeyer novel to try.

Although I liked the characters and was interested in the history around the boating industry, the romance got really tedious and I scanned the entire last half of the book. Too much time spent on small details and thought processes regarding the romance aspect. The story itself was good but could have been told in half the pages.

This is an extremely fun book! While the characters are delightful and adventurous, the plot is engaging and unique. Furthermore, Karen weaves interesting historical elements into her story-- especially, about steamboat boilers. Her inspirational tone is sure to leave readers encouraged.

Karen Witemeyer is one of the best Historical Fiction authors from Bethany House. She always provides a fun, enjoyable read for readers. Her characters are well developed and sometimes quite amusing. Karen's way of showing the feelings and thoughts of both Nicole and Darius is also highly enjoyable for her readers. So, whether nearly drowning or blowing up because of an experiment, Nicole and Darius will have you entranced for hours.

Excellent book. The twists and historical subject matter make it hard to put down. Biblical messages fit in perfectly and aren't too "in your face" but remind us of where we stand and Who is in charge. Well written.

This is the third book I have read by Karen Witemeyer, but actually the fourth "work" that I've read by her, if you count her short story in the collection of novellas entitled "A Match Made in Texas". This one was very pleasing. Nicole and Darius were both great characters (very realistic), the plot was interesting, and the writing was very good. Although I got bogged down a little over half way (maybe 3/4), I was able to finish it and I can say it is a great, clean, romance novel that many will enjoy.

Nicole Renard isn't your ordinary woman. She's got more than just looks. She's got an intellectual mind, a knack for fighting (a knife, her weapon of choice), and a determination you don't find much among her type in the 1800s. But there's one thing she hasn't got: a husband. And with her father's death possibly looming in the future, he has commissioned her to find him an heir to take over the business. Along the way, Nicole receives temporary employment from a certain Darius Thornton, a hardened man hungry to undo his past and revolutionize the modern steam ships of America. Nicole knows what she must do for her father, but her heart cannot but help falling for the man who treats her like no one ever has. But, it would never work...would it?
