I recommend this beautiful picture book for anyone who is experiencing a creative block. Reading it feels like taking a walk through a collage of thoughts and visual art. I'm not sure if children will like it as much as adults will, but it's worth a try.

As an photography aficionado, I connected with this book instantly (hah!). It is a wonderful visual book that uses drawing, collage, instant photography and a typewriter to push the reader to be inspired by all that is around them. Simple, sweet, and easy on the eyes.

A sweet, graceful, and inventive book about how an artist spends an ordinary day observing and interacting with the world around him.

I have often wondered how authors get their ideas for a book. This book offers some insight as the question is answered on a dog walk through the neighborhood. I love that the book's illustrations include photographs, drawings, block prints and a wonderful typewriter font. "Ideas Are All Around" inspires me to try creating a book of a similar nature...getting out my camera, looking more closely to see what I can see and dusting off my typewriter.

This book is an artform of its own, reading like a sketchbook/diary of a wise and joyful artist. Stead treats the reader to a collection of lovely little observations--a spare yet generous glimpse of the wonder hiding within the facts of everyday life. I can't think of another children's book that so authentically captures the experience of being a grown up, yet still feels completely appropriate for sharing with children. This would be great book to inspire creative writing projects with kids in grades k-3, and it could inspire some fantastic sketchbooking or monoprinting projects in art classrooms.

This sweet, funny, and thought-provoking picture book is great to share with children in kindergarten through grade 3.
