Wade. An adoptee who was herself surrendered during those years and recently made contact with her mother, Fessler brilliantly brings to life the voices of more than a hundred women, as well as the spirit of those times, allowing the women to tell their stories in gripping and intimate detail.

I read this book in 5 hours straight; it was so engrossing. It made me think of a side of adoption that honestly never occurred to me. It never crossed my mind, even being a child of adoption, that the birth mother would still be in pain about it so many years later. I said a prayer for my birth mother on my 30th birthday hoping that she has made peace with the decision she made. I am eternally grateful for her sacrifice.
