#1 New York Times bestselling author Kim Harrison returns to the supernatural adventures of Rachel Morgan in the penultimate book of the Hollows series Witch and day-walking demon Rachel Morgan knows magic-earth, ley line, even the forbidden demon magic-and that knowledge has saved her life more than once. But now something-or someone-is attacking Cincinnati and the Hollows, causing spells to backfire or go horribly wrong while living vampires attack humans and Inderlanders alike. The pressures build when the city is quarantined to contain the unreliable magic, and Rachel must stop the attacks before the undead vampire masters who keep the rest of the undead under control are lost and it becomes all-out supernatural war. The only way to do so is through the ancient Elven magic, but that carries its own perils-for magic always has a price, and gods do not come lightly when called.

This is the first one of this series of books that I have read. I was quickly taken into the wonderfully magic and unpredictable world of Rachel, a demon witch. This is a great action-based series with strong female leads, richly described. While this world is fraught with competition and a history of past slavery among the varied elves, demons, goddesses, and pixies, it is handled well, without overt gore. I think this series would be good for any reader 7th grade and up. The sex was romantic with limited overt details, but a integral part of the story. I'm hooked and happily await reading the rest of the series.

What can I say about a book that I’ve been waiting for since at least book three....one word.....Trent. I love that Elf! To say that it was amazing, heartbreaking, uplifting, funny, life affirming, maddening, romantic, and bittersweet is all accurate and yet still woefully insufficient. The fact that this is book 12 in what will be a 13 book series makes it even that much more incredible. I loved loved loved this story. Marguerite Gavin is one of the best narrator out there. Love her character voices, Fantastic job. Epic storyline! Tink's little pink dildo, I'm so happy with the turn of events in this book that I might burst! One very happy reader. :)

Witch and day-walking demon Rachel Morgan has managed to save the demonic ever after from shrinking, but at a high cost. Now strange magic is attacking Cincinnati and the Hollows, causing spells to backfire or go horribly wrong, and the truce between the races, between Inderlander and human, is shattering.

Rachel must stop the occurrences before the undead vampire masters who keep the rest of the undead under control are lost and it becomes all-out supernatural war. However, the only way to do so is through the ancient elven wild magic, which carries its own perils.

"You've had that elf as your familiar for over a year, and he's not put the sparkle in your scrying mirror even once?"
